my almost one year old

it's crazy that soon i will be telling people that capri is one year old! i need to practice now saying "she's one." rather than "she's 15 months" or "she's 43 months." what a milestone! i'm figuring out her birthday plans still :) i'm thinking an intimate zoo trip! it's more for her zoo-obsessed daddy but i think she'll enjoy the animals too! and i can't wait for that cake smeared classic one-year picture! i hope she really eats crazy and doesn't disappoint! who am i kidding. that chick knows how to eat and disappoint? she never does. it's fun being a mom and thinking your baby is perfect. that cutie! so i thought i'd share 11 cute things about that little nutter! since she is still just 11 months.

1. Capri has developed a new trick this week. Throwing her head back and fake laughing. I swear she got it from Jane and I think it's adorable! she's our little copy cat.

2. She loves playing with kitchen utensils! And she got that from Jody! She is picking up what her friends lay down left and right. I gotta make sure she has stellar friends and understands peer pressure starting now!

3. She is our little dancer. I was recently called to teach the oldest kids in primary and being back in primary has been such a blessing. Church goes by faster (which is good when you have a squirmy baby on your lap and you're often solo), my decision to stay all 3 hours is now easier, and Capri is easier to handle with all the singing and kids to stare at! You'll see her in the back row bobbing her head to the songs and distracting the primary kids.

4. She is obsessed with laying on the floor of our closet. I have scarves on the ground and she scurries over and lays her precious head on the soft linens.
 5. This chick also scurries (that verb reminds me of a a cockroach- well she is just as fast as one) to the bathroom anytime she hears us open the bathroom door, turn on the faucet, or pull the shower curtain back. She gets her hopes up so high that we'll give her a bath.

6. She is a rockstar at stroller rides. We took her to Swiss Days this morning (I'm such a fan and can't wait till I'm swimming in money and can buy all the masterpieces) and she was chill for hours. We went on a mini golf date earlier this week. Once again- she's just sitting there and watching the two glow-in-the-dark golf balls be hit from side to side. (I lost by one point! i really wanted to win that bet!)

7. She has BABY feet compared to her TODDLER cousin....... who is only one week older than her! I just love these two and their growth comparisons. It will be this way the rest of their lives I'm afraid :) constant comparing and scrutinizing.

8. She now gets into airplane rides. This age stage has been a dream. I try to spend good chunks of my day playing with Capri and spending real quality time with her! I love it! This evening she was chasing me around the floor (we were both crawling) for over 10 minutes. It really hurts your knees- so I had to surrender. But she didn't tire of playing tag!

9. She is obsessed with the kids upstairs. Like an unusual amount. More than she is with other kids. So it was perfect tonight when I was babysitting them. Capri was in her high chair eating dinner. Ava was swinging. And Kalel was entertaining them both for most of the evening!

10. I've been trying to teach her "No!" and it has been a struggle. I've tried snapping, speaking, constraining her hands, putting her down, moving her away, and nothing has worked yet. I am hoping she is just too young still. Otherwise I'm in trouble with some serious defiance and a child that laughs right in my face when I say NO! For now I have to take out the earrings, tie my hair back, be patient as I feed a spitting child, and snuggle an injured baby daily! We'll get there :)

11. And to leave you- I just took some major risks as I crept in to her room and snapped this pic! She really shoved her head up against those bars. My wild-hair button-nose!  I miss her so much when she's sleeping and sometimes I go in and stare at this beautiful daughter sent from heaven. I am one blessed mamma!

payson canyon

we went camping up payson canyon and it was BEAUTIFUL! (and free and secluded and plenty of parking!) We are big fans now. So much so that we thought this would be our last camping trip of the season- but we are now determined to squeeze in one more before the snow comes!

we actually ate quite well and i didn't leave the trip feeling 100 lbs lighter. just 10 or 15 ;) tinfoil dinners, stakes, smores, treats, breakfast burritos, and what not!

some highlights:

  • playing password and cody saying "utensils" in a chinese accent to give the clue for chopsticks (def had to be there)
  • steven and bri pretending to be a bear in the forest. jeff and i checked it out. I had the lantern. Jeff had the gun. That was SUPER dumb of them, bc if you know jeff- you know that he would shoot a moving silhouette when in danger. oh my! and we can kinda laugh about it now. kinda.
  • capri having a rough night and at 3 in the morning i sleepily suggested that chase go home with her..... so he did and came back in the morning. blurry nightly decisions!
  • telephone charades
  • never ever have i ever
  • heart to hearts
  • and angel babies that played hilariously together
they love each other

capri and jane are good friends. and were both awesome. watching capri interact with fellow babies at this age is the best.

and when i went down for a store run. i had to go BAD. and i thanked the high heavens for this find in the stall. life saver. genius inventor.

well that's all for now. campers out!

my HANDIcap

so this happened over a week ago..... i got my stitches out today. i'm still a wimp and cradle it. i have to go back in two weeks so they can take an ultrasound and check there is no more nerve or tendon damage.

cooking 101:
when getting the avocado pit out of an avocado, do NOT hold the avocado and stab it. you will stab more than an inch into your hand. no duh.

so i did this at about 5:15. i was having a dinner party at 5:30.
p.s. thanks for coming over j&k&j
with the bleeding under control and my husband taunting me to be tough, i sucked it up.
but by the next morning, my range of motion, pain, numbness, and swelling was too sketchy to ignore.

but of course i waited until after my shift

so i went to the doctor. they numbed my hand, fished around (found a nasty blood clot and two pieces of avocado skin- classic), and flushed it for infection. i'm on antibiotics, up to date with my tetanus shot, and on the road to recover!

i'm a survivor (and a dramatic one at that)
i watched capri and the neighbor baby friday (overnight) and saturday with one hand! but that was cake compared to showers and the dishes.

end of that story.

and i'm happy to be back in a routine with annie.
this pic was snapped when annie was babysitting the munchkins. what dolls!!!

and has anyone else been getting missed calls from the #4? .... i have.....

her newest reaction to whitney

i'm still scared for this payback.

you must teach children to love themselves at a young age.

precious time with this giggler

Cheeseball pics!

yesterday i took oodles of pics and i take any opportunity to be a cheeseball. I thought they were all pretty cute so yah. this overload is happening.
i babysat the lil baby upstairs and it was 3 hours of "keep the baby away" from capri. this is how is started out... and it got more aggressive.
capri didn't understand the meaning of being gentle. She would giggle, laugh, and get so excited to be near the baby. And he mobility was a challenge. She can almost crawl up the couch now! People always told me that once capri started crawling i would bite my tongue for wanting it...... but i haven't gotten to that point yet! i love it more than i dislike it.
1. i am relieved to see her catch up at 11 months
2. it is so cute, esp how she'll crawl to anything soft and lay on it and snuggle more
3. she is taking leaps and bounds (pun!) with standing, walking on edges, and almost walking independently
4. no longer scared of the vacuum- she now chases it
5. she is even more entertained with all her explorations
1. her fav activity is lifting the toilet lid and throwing things in the toilet. i am trying hard to make it a habit to keep that door closed.
2. i need a baby gate and cupboard closing hooks immediately
3. a whiney shadow is often at my heels
4. her feet, knees, and shins are calloused and constantly dirty
5. she'll stand in her crib so going to sleep takes a lot longer

ok now all those pics i warned you about.
watch me clap, baby!

i will just look and not attack

mom! why do you keep making high pitched noises to get us to both look at the same time?

then a little baby whisperer action

haha! you can't reach me! -says the baby

capri is laughing bc she's so excited to see the baby.
which turned into a whine bc i wouldn't let her be too close to the baby.

later, we went to our proposal spot in salem! it was so fun and they even had a little beach at the lake in the summer. i hadn't been since february 2012! we are going back for swimming and summer fun.

capri can make some of the best faces!

i need to be the best mom so that capri always looks up to me :)

we know how to look cute!

and last night we had a reception in bountiful. i need to ask bri to send me all the pics we took there bc i have nada. but we stopped as a fam at the bountiful temple before and it was magical! and my sister celebrated her 9th wedding anniversary (crazy!) this week and she was married at that beautiful house of the lord!

this angel fit right in as we walked the temple grounds

i feel lucky to resemble this cutie

so grateful she is sealed to us

i wasn't as good of a photographer as chase. but she's still a daddy's girl.
she has one amazing dad.

and a random cookie monster pic for you :) i sent my last mtc package to grant today! he leaves monday for africa! and capri enjoyed one of his cookies!

i've been feeling so blessed, happy, and at peace the past couple weeks. a good family vacation and family time can really do a woman good!

the wilder wedding

last week, i was able to spend some great time with the wilder fam! setting up for the wedding of the season, witnessing the wedding, and spending time with my second family was perfect! here's the wedding from my point of view via pics!
it was a beautiful ceremony with love, laughter, and memories. what a blessing.
the happy hip couple making their grand debut!
so happy for michael and stephanie! congratulations!
michael deserves all the happiness and a happy marriage- he's always been such an amazing friend and important guy in my life (and now chase's life too. chase loves michael like no other) and michael gave the cutest speech at the luncheon and publicly declared how he's never been happier and loves stephanie oodles! that is a successful start to a marriage.

these two are important people! they're kind of a big deal :) esp to me!

the second fam! they are all amazing and loving and supportive and i'm lucky to know them!

wilder, wilder, wilder, wilder, wilder, merk

the struggle is real.

oh my!! marc photobombing- hilarious and creepy and i love it!!! it was a great day!

this pic cracks me up. so i included it with the good one.
this girl is still the bff i've always loved. and i'm so happy we could visit and have three blessed days together. i promise i'll make it out to indi one of these days. hopefully over thunder weekend..... in the next five years! that's my goal. lame but realistic.

i didn't take any photos at the luncheon or reception but it was just as glorious! thank you for letting me be a part of your big day, m&s!
enjoy that honeymoon!
